Traditional Tavernas & stores

There are two main tavernas in the town square, a cafe and a bar further down the windy road.

The first taverna is called 'O Parnon', named after Mount Parnonas where Kastanitsa is situated. It has many delicacies including the infamous 'Kastanopatso' meaning chestnut pie (the only taverna to make it in the region!). It is delicious & tastes very much like sticky date pudding mmmm! The taverna is run by mother and daughter Anna & Matoula. Matoula's husband Taki, also runs the cafe next door 'To Kentriko' (meaning the local cafe) with his father Mihali. Both are renovated with a heritage perspective & also serve menus with a traditional Kastanitsiotiko flavour. Click on the pics below to view the traditional taverna and cafe run by these families.

The other taverna is run by the Antoniou family who also own 'Hotel Antoniou'. Their taverna is called 'To Stolidi' meaning 'the decoration' as it is also renovated to the heritage style & flavour. The same can be said for their guest house 'Hotel Antoniou'. It has 5 rooms all created with a traditional flair. For further information on the guest house, visit their web site at: http://www.sun-mountain-snow.gr/    Please click on the links below to view their taverna & their hotel.

There are also a few other small businesses in town that I unfortunately don't have pictures for but hope to update soon. These are:

* Mini market/Taverna run by Louise, Pitsa & Alexia Liakouris that holds everyday needs such as bread, milk & other necessities. During the summer months the taverna sells delicious home cooked meals on a daily basis. During the quieter winter days the taverna is only open on weekends.

* 'To Kati tis Athanasias' is a naturalist/souvenir store managed by Theodore Kalkanis that sells products made from local produce such as:

Honey  Pastas  'Paximadia' (rye rusks) 'Glyko tou koutaliou' (caramlised fruit in syrup)  oregano  teas
