Kastanitsa celebrates many festivals and events!

The most popular would have to be Easter, The Festival of the Chestnut (kastano) & most popular 'Tou Sotiras' - 'Our Saviour' holy festival. This is on August the 6th & runs for 3 whole days.

The infamous 'Chestnut Festival' runs over the weekend of Oct 28th & 29th. The whole weekend is spent gathering, roasting & eating chestnuts. There are many other activities such as stalls, dancing & other traditional Kastanitsa folk festivities. In 2006, there was an estimated 4000 people attendance! The Greek magazine 'Gourmet' featured an article on chestnuts and the Kastanitsa Chestnut Festival.

Did you know that Kastanitsa was featured in a MEGA channel (the Greek TV station) mini series ? Yes it's true! It is called Apo kato to fos to feggariou' -Under the light of the moon (click the series title to view further information about the TV drama serial). The series is about two young girls lives from the time they are children through to adulthood. The filming in Kastanitsa features the lives of the two young girls growing up in a small Greek village. One of our very own residents of Kastanitsa was cast as one of the small girls as a young child. This was the role of the protagonist Maria as a young girl. Look at the Prior to 2007 events below to view a clip of the filming in Kastanitsa.
